Grading Policy
Students will receive math assignments regularly. As often as possible, students will be able to start (and in some cases complete) the assignment in class. The assignment is due the next day (unless otherwise stated).
Projects will be assigned periodically. Students will receive a rubric with the assignment and expectations for each of these projects. The rubric will be returned within a few days of the due date. Project grades will also be posted in PowerSchool in that same time frame.* At times, the actually projects are not returned right away because they may be displayed in the classroom or hallway.
Writing assignments will be assigned periodically. Students will receive the prompt and writing expectations. We will be using the Collin's Writing Program. Writings will be graded and returned to the student within a few days of completion along with the grades being posted in PowerSchool.*
Quizzes may be given periodically to check understanding of content. They may be announced or unannounced. Quizzes will be graded and returned to the student within a few days of completion along with the grades being posted in PowerSchool.*
Tests are given at the end of each unit (approximately every 30 days). Students will have at least one week notice prior to a test. Tests will be graded and returned to the student within a few days of completion along with the grades being posted in PowerSchool.*
The following policy applies for homework:
1. When students enter the classroom, they are responsible for retrieving their homework and placing it on the corner of their desk. Students then begin working on the Do Now, which is posted on the board.
2. As students are working on the Do Now, I walk around and visually check to ensure that the homework is complete. Completed homework means every problem is completed or attempted with appropriate work. Completed homework is done in pencil and ready to be checked in at the beginning of class. If students have a completed assignment, I award them 4 out of 4 points. If the assignment is incomplete, I explain what they need to do to complete it and they receive 0 out of 4 points. The Late Homework and ZAP Policies will then apply to that assignment. Grades are posted in PowerSchool within the week (usually daily).*
4. Students are responsible for checking their own homework using an ink pen. Answers are given out loud and students are to mark wrong answers with an "x" and write in the correct answer.
5. After checking the work, the students have the opportunity to ask questions on any problem they need help or clarification on. I go over these problems as a whole class writing the steps on the board when appropriate.
6. After checking the homework and asking questions, students are responsible for taking this assignment home and making corrections on each problem they got wrong in pen. Students need to show me work for the problem or write an explanation about the mistake they made. I collect all corrected homework (and Do Nows) from the previous week, stapled together, on Mondays. This corrected homework packet is a "credit" or "no credit" grade. If students correct each incorrect problem, in pen, and turn in all assignments and Do Nows, they receive full credit. I will place a check mark on the top of the packet. If not, they receive a zero and a brief explanation about what was missing.
*I make every attempt to update the students' grades daily. There will be times that I may not be able to do so. Please be understanding when this occurs and contact me with any concerns.
